This marks a major milestone in the development of a new strategy to accommodate housing needs for all income levels in the City of San Carlos.  Housing Elements are State-mandated policy documents charged with addressing how the cities and counties in California will accommodate and facilitate the production of housing units at all income levels over the course of an 8-year planning horizon. For San Carlos, the housing need is to facilitate the production of at least 2,735 new units to the year 2031.

Public comments on the Draft Housing Element will be accepted during this 30-day public review period starting August 30, 2022 through September 30, 2022.

Click here to download the Draft Housing Element. Hardcopies will be available for viewing at several locations at the Civic Center (see list of locations below).

To learn more, the public is invited to attend Draft Housing Element Study Sessions with the Planning Commission and City Council (attend in person at 600 Elm Street, or by Zoom using the link provided on the Planning Commission and City Council agendas):

Following the Study Sessions, the Draft Housing Element may be revised based on comments received from the public, recommendations by the Planning Commission, and direction given by the City Council.  Thereafter, the Draft Housing Element is required by State law to be submitted to the State Department of Housing and Community Development for review.

We encourage all San Carlos community members to visiting this project site and provide input using the public comment form provided.
